Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai

Today we climbed the stairs up to the top of the mountain, an important temple called Doi Suthep. Now I know that Doi means mountain in Thai. Holy cow, this temple was built in 1386, what were they thinking? The temple is near the peak of a mountain and then it’s some 300 steps up after driving up the mountain for 15 minutes, not too bad actually, keeping me in shape which I’m happy about. I think this is a must do while in Chiang Mai. So here are my pics for you but if you go, Sunday’s are very busy, better you go during the week, less people I’m sure. In fact, I would recommend that you book a 2 or 3 day tour that includes Doi Suthep as part of your itinerary, this way you get the most of everything that you will see. Otherwise, you don’t have the benefit of local knowledge and you don’t really understand the cultural significance of what you see and why it is so important to Thai people.

the golden shimmering spire of the temple, you can see this from miles away as this temple is at about 2,500 feet above sea level

A very cute but tired dancer… but not too tired, she still squeezed me for 20 Baht
