Floating Markets Close to Bangkok

There are many floating markets in Thailand, the best are within a 2 hours drive of Bangkok. The Damnoen Saduak Floating Market (sometimes spelled without a space) is the largest and most well known. Damnoen Saduak is about 100 kilometers southwest of Bangkok. The easiest way to get there is to hire a taxi from your Bangkok hotel for about 1,500 Baht and the taxi will take you there and wait for you for about 90 minutes at the market to give you a chance to explore. Best to leave Bangkok at about 7am for this trip. For a real adventure, rent a car and turn this trip into a day long adventure because there are 3 or 4 other floating markets within a 15 drive from Damnoen Saduak and these other markets don’t see many tourists. However, local knowledge is always best and to get the most of seeing rural Thailand, you are best off booking a 3 or 4 day bike tour that includes Damnoen Saduak floating market on the itinerary.
