The Chao Phraya River in Bangkok

When in Bangkok everyone should go to the Chao Phraya River and take a water taxi or rent a private long tail boat and take a trip down the river and ask the boat driver to explore some of the tributary canals. Here you will find a glimpse of old Bangkok. The easiest thing to do is hop in a taxi and ask him to take you to the Chao Phraya area in the Silom area or the Si Phraya Pier on Chao Phraya – this is where you can catch your water taxi or Long Tail Boat. Or just get on the Skytrain (on the Silom line) and go to the Taksim Station, its very close walking distance to another pier where you  can buy a river tour for 150 Baht.

I highly recommend having an evening dinner at a 5 star hotel on an outdoor patio on the Chao Phraya river bank to watch the beautiful cruise boats go by.  The Oriental Hotel is here as is the Shangri-La and many other fine hotels. Its a really lovely evening to sit on the river and watch all the boat traffic go by. These day and night time images give you an idea. Keep in mind, I’m not exactly the world’s best photographer.. :-)
