Turns out, it’s pretty simple and stress-free to travel to the southern Thai island of Koh Lanta from Bangkok. My friends and I were able to book our trip from BKK to Lanta on Nok’s website. The booking got us from Bangkok’s Don Muang airport right to Saladan pier on Koh Lanta, including (1) flight from BKK to Trang, (2) minivan to ferry dock and (3) ferry boat to the island. Easy!
Once we arrived at the Trang airport we spotted the Nok Air “Babes” and proceeded get signed in. Here’s a fun fact: all the Nok Air female staff actually wear bright colored t-shirts with “BABE” written across them. They also happen to be super sweet and cute so needless to say they are easy to spot. After signing in we were brought to a mini-van for the 45 min drive to the ferry pier. As our flight got us into Trang early (around 9 am) and the ferry wasn’t scheduled to depart till 1pm, our minivan dropped us off at a Tesco for a pit stop. We bought snacks, had a coffee and strolled the aisles, all the while enjoying the air conditioning. Once we got to the ferry dock we had bit more down time so be sure to charge your ipad/ipod or pack some good reading material. Also if you love the open air, make sure you have your hat and sunblock readily accessible for the ferry. The best seats are on the rooftop deck and really allow you to take in the beautiful scenery as you head to the island. Then at Saladan pier on Lanta we took a tuk tuk taxi to our hotel for a cost about $7… I think we could have done a better job with bargaining according to our hotel attendant but oh well, a couple dollars.
And the best part of the day, we got there just in time to check in, grab some cold beverages and head down to the beach to enjoy our first Koh Lanta sunset. Simply stunning.
