Friends, you have to go to these 2 totally fun Jazz Bars in Bangkok. First, the Saxophone Club the other night was great. A big band was playing with a big horn section and they played many old favorites and we loved the music. The musicians are all Thai and all seemed to be studio quality, to my ears anyway. I only had my iPhone with me, so no good pictures… so sorry. Its more of a pub feeling inside, big wooden beams and posts everywhere. We will go back again for sure. No cover charge and drinks are reasonable. Its so easy to find and easy to get to, just take the skytrain on the Sukhumvit line and get off at Victory Monument Station. After you exit the train, walk the skywalk bridge for about 100 meters and then exit down to the street level. Just ask street vendors where the Saxophone pub is from there, you are about one minutes walk.
Last weekend we went to the new more sophisticated Jazz Bar on Soi 33 in Sukhumvit called Black. I don’t think this club is owned by Thai’s, not that that matters, but it’s really worth a trip because here you will see entertainment from around the world. I think the owners are seriously connected in Jazz circles because the other night, the band really rocked, dare I use that as a reference when blogging about jazz. Oh well. How to get there? Again skytrain is super easy, take the Sukhumvit line and get off at the Phrom Pom Station and look for Soi 33. We walked about 5 minutes from the BTS skytrain station. Enjoy!
