Long beach (aka Pra Ae Beach) as its name suggests, is the longest stretch of beach on the island of Koh Lanta. For those of you that don’t have your geography down yet, Koh Lanta is part of the Krabi province and you arrive on Koh Lanta via Krabi. And what a fantastic stretch of beach Long Beach is! When I first arrived I almost immediately experienced that sense relaxation and calm that comes from a beach vacation, usually after a few days. But on Long Beach it happened so quickly I started to wonder why. And then it dawned on me – this beach is extremely clean and free from noise pollution! The longboat engines, speedboats, jet skis, hawkers selling their wares , loud (and terrible) music from beach bars – Long Beach had NONE of it. The brilliant people of long beach got together and banned the beach hawkers and noisy boat vendors from selling on their beach according to the talented woman who became my daily Thai massage therapist
This beach definitely caters to a nice diverse group of travellers: the traveller looking for a less crowded beach, romantic couples, families, and backpackers looking to escape the extreme party scenes of nearby Koh Phi Phi.
And what should you do? Consume fresh mixed fruit drinks while hanging out in a sun hut at the Ozone Bar, get a Thai oil massage on the beach to the sound of waves, join in on the daily volleyball game or enjoy a nice sunset jog. I absolutely recommend this beach!
