Private Charter, Sail the Mergui Islands on the 72 ft SY Scame Yacht

Sail on the 72 ft SY Scame, a Timeless Cutter Yacht

SY Scame with her three double cabins and six berths, is  spacious and the perfect yacht for families or groups of up to six people.

Scame is a truly elegant sailer and has been cruising around the globe continuously for the past 35 years before joining the fleet in the Mergui Archipelago. She is fast and comfortable and her friendly captain is probably the most experienced yachtsman on the seven seas. There is a relaxed family atmosphere aboard Scame and her skilled crew of 4 will look after you!

Cabins & Quarters

SY Scame can accommodate up to six guests in three cabins. The very large aft cabin has a double and single bed as well as desk and plenty of storage space. Scame's other cabins features two single berths and another cabin with a double bed on her starboard side. All cabins have access two guest washrooms with showers. The yacht is fully air-conditioned and all cabins have fans.

The classy wooden interior of the whole yacht has a maritime style. From the teak deck, you step down into the centrally located saloon which is positioned between the aft cabin and the double-bed cabin on the one hand and the galley and the twin-bed cabin on the other. There is a very comfortable leather couch situated around a coffee table, which  loveningly unfolds into a large dining table.

The well-equipped galley with fridge, freezers, stove and all necessary kitchen equipment. Just beyond the galley are the captain’s and crew quarters - two cabins with their own washroom - and all are separately accessible from above deck.

A driver and guide will meet you at the airport in Kawthaung, Myanmar. Its just as easy to also meet you in Ranong on the Thailand side of the border. Either way, you will be on board the SY Scame soon relaxing with your welcome drink.
The following 3 or 4 day itinerary is a representative example of a private yacht charter in the Mergui Archipelago. Private charters have a 3 day minimum, itineraries vary with the number of days charter and are finalized once we know how many days you have available. Chartering the SY Scame includes a crew of 4.
After a quick lunch in the bustling town we set sail for Hastings Island. The beach is beautiful and there's not a single footprint in the sand.
Chartering the whole boat with crew is great for groups, however, for 2 people, rather than charter the whole boat you can join in on a scheduled 6 day cruise and book a private cabin on board SY Scame. For pricing and to view this itinerary click this link. www.tourchoice.com/tour/sail-the-mergui-archipelago-myanmar/

Breakfast

Dinner
Early the next morning we will arrive at Lampi Island, the largest in the region. We will brunch on board and visit a village of Moken sea nomads. Let's buy squid for dinner before sailing northwest to the gorgeous Clara Island. The water is exceptionally clear here! The experienced crew does all the sailing for you but if you want to try your hand, why not.  We think you will want to kick back and relax on empty beaches or lounge on board with a drink in your hand and of course, when the time is right we can race with the dolphins. The cabins, kitchen and dining galley aboard the SY Scame are air conditioned. The fine food and professional crew makes this an easy experience for you.

The Seasons

Sailing conditions during December to February are perfect, with warm, sunny weather, a steady 20 knots of wind, and calm seas. March and April have a bit less wind, which is why they are the best time for diving and snorkelling with clear water. There are numerous large islands providing hundreds of protected anchorages in sandy or muddy bottoms. The region provides safe sailing, with few under-water obstacles or dangerous reefs. In case we encounter days without wind, there is enough to explore in the water and on land to keep us busy.

The Activities

Snorkelling equipment and fishing rods and misc equipment are supplied which helps with the days fresh catch on board! Casting for tuna, barracuda, mahi mahi, giant trevally, Spanish mackerel or snapper while sailing. Most of the local fishing boats in the area catch squid and cuttlefish and we often buy fresh fish directly from them.

Beach combing, hiking, trekking, trail blazing, swimming, snorkeling, diving, fishing, relaxing, star gazing, bird watching, bartering and trading with the Moken peoples, fine dining and enjoying wine with dinner or your favorite beverages are all normal every day activities aboard the Meta IV.

The People

The Indigenous people of the Mergui Archipelago are the Moken, a tradional people who live off, and on, the sea. Known as "sea-gypsies", the Moken are an ethnic minority leading a traditional, semi-nomadic lifestyle, dominated by diving for sea cucumbers, fishing and bartering. You will visit Moken villages and  enjoy Moken food, buy fresh cuttlefish, and watch men building dugout canoes the way they have been made for a millennia. Myanmar is home to more than 100 ethnicities from the Sino-Tibetan, Tai, and Austroasiatic ethnolinguistic groups and you will see an array of starkly differing features amongst the people you’ll meet.

Getting There is Easy

This cruise departs from Kawthaung, Myanmar which is located in the south of Myanmar just across the border from Thailand. You can fly to Kawthaung if you are already up north in Myanmar. Air KBZ, Yangon Airways, Air Mandalay, Asian Wing, Golden Myanmar and Air Bagan are possible airlines.

However, flying to Ranong in Thailand is easiest and the least expensive. There are daily flights from Bangkok by Nok Air and Happy Air direct to Ranong.  The airport is well served by local taxi drivers but we can also pick you up from Ranong Airport. Once you are in Ranong, we will take a longtail boat across the Pakchan River to Kawthaung on the Myanmar side, which takes only a few minutes. We will help you with the immigration procedures before boarding the yacht.

You can also arrive from Phuket International Airport in whihc case you would have to drive north for 4-hours by car to Ranong, Ranong is the Thai border town just across the  Pakchan River from Kawthaung in Myanmar.  Talk to us about your travel plans, we can help.
